The Professional Certificate in English (CIE) course is a bridging programme designed to develop the English ability of International students who want to pursue a diploma or tertiary education conducted in the English
The CIE consists of 5 levels :-
Stage 1 - General English
Elementary
Pre-Intermediate
Intermediate
Stage 2 - Academic English
Upper Intermediate
Advanced
The CIE consists of these five levels conducted across two stages of English language learning. Each level is specifically designed to place students at the level appropriate to their English ability, and to help them attain the equivalency of IELTS 6.0 or IELTS 6.5 required by all our University partners.
Each level will comprise 210 contact hours to be completed in 7 + 1 weeks
(7 weeks class contact; 1 week examinations and result posting), covering Writing, Reading, Listening, Speaking and Skills Development.
Classes will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.
Students who do not demonstrate proficiency in English (EL1) equivalent to at least C6 pass at GCE 'O' level, IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550 have to go through this course before they join any academic programme with BBS.
STAGE 1 : GENERAL ENGLISH
The focus of this stage is to develop the students' proficiency in General English language, and it consists of the following modules:
General English Module
Communication Skills Module
The General English module helps to build the students' foundation in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills for general purposes, as well as grammar and vocabulary. It develops the students' English proficiency to an adequate level to receive instruction in academic discourse.
The Communication Skills module aims to help the students gain confidence and competency in using English. It also develops the students' ability to communicate in predictable everyday situations.
STAGE 2 : ACADEMIC ENGLISH
The aim of this stage is to nurture students in English language skills for academic purposes across the following modules:
Academic Reading, Writing & Study Skills Module
Academic Listening, Note-Taking and Discussion Module
The first module focuses on building the students' reading, writing and study skills by exposing them to academic-oriented texts. Students are taught how to write essays and reports.
The Academic Listening, Note-Taking and Discussion module uses a strong task-based approach to help students listen for information in lectures, develop note-taking skills and conduct discussions in academic contexts.

S$ 5,950.00* per semester (6 Months)
* All fees quoted are subject to prevailing goods and services tax (GST) and other costs arising from government directives.
*Other non-tuition fees (membership fees, examination fees, administration fees and miscellaneous fees) are applicable upon admission
